Spring Break 2016- Books & Bathing Suits & Clothes

With Spring Break happening now through the next couple weeks, I thought it would be fun to do something here on the blog about it.  There are a bunch of books that I think would be great Spring Break reads- new ones, coming soon ones, and oldies but goodies.  I decided to talk about some of these books while featuring places it would be fun to read them at... and outfits to go with!!

**As always I tried to keep all the costs down.  80% of everything you see is under $70.

BEACH

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro

  • BEACH!!  Who wouldn't want to spend Spring Break lying at the beach??  I can't think of a better beach book than A Study in Charlotte.  It's a Sherlock Holmes retelling, which personally I find perfect for the beach.  For me, Mysteries usually make the best beach books.
  • The Outfit: I love this fringe one-piece bathing suit... and I usually don't do rompers, but I think this one would make the perfect cover-up.

BEACH

When We Collided by Emery Lord

  • From everything I've heard about this book, it's in the unputdownable category.  It's definitely for the person who likes to read DEEP books while lounging in the sand.  It covers mental illness, grief, friendship, love.... I also think it may be wise to bring some tissues (just in case).
  • The Outfit: I picked both a one-piece and a two-piece for this look, just to give options (also I kind of couldn't pick because they're both adorable).  I love the cover-up as well!!

BEACH

Emerge (Mer Chronicles #1) by Tobie Easton

  • This is a Little Mermaid retelling!!
  • The Outfit: So, this is a Little Mermaid book, and I went pretty obvious with the outfit.... but I just couldn't help myself!!  I saw this bathing suit in person at Hot Topic and I immediately KNEW I had to use it for this book!!  How fun would it be to dress up like a mermaid at the beach???

DAYTIME FUN

Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here by Anna Breslaw- Pub Date- April 19

  • This one is a lighter YA Contemporary, which I think would be perfect to get you in the mood to go have a daytime adventure.  You know when you're on vaca, you always have that (at least) one day where you have activities planned.  This is your book for that day :)
  • The Outfit: Keeping it casual with a flow-y tank and some cute jean shorts.  I also love these little Fuji mini cameras and want to get one!  And the chunky 90's sandals are a HELL YES!

NIGHT OUT

Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke- Pub Date: March 22

  • This book sounds perfect to get ready for a night out.  It's a little darker, has an unreliable narrator, and seems like it takes many twists and turns throughout.  Just as unpredictable as a night out on the town should be!
  • The Outfit(s): I chose a casual, flirty dress and a more dressy, sultry outfit depending on what the occasion is.  I matched these outfits more to the cover because HELLO!!!  That's a beautiful cover!!!  Also, I had to throw in my 90's touch (the tattoo choker).

ROAD TRIP

The Haters by Jesse Andrews- Pub Date: April 5
  • Not feeling the beach for Spring Break??  That's cool because it's the perfect time for a ROAD TRIP!!!  The Haters is the perfect Road Trip book because it's about, DUH, a Road Trip!!  And music, and 3 bandmates who could not be more inept at communicating!!  It's funny, frustrating, and unique.
  • The Outfit: I love the MTV t-shirt, but I wanted to include a dressier top for the gals who like to be classy even on a long car ride.  Fun sunglasses are a must for memory making Road Trips (IMO), and a cute on-the-road  phone case can't hurt right??  I also love, love, love the polka-dot jeans- I'll be ordering those now!!

VISITING

In Real Life by Jessica Love- Pub Date: March 1
  • In Real Life is about a girl who goes on Spring Break to visit her internet friend who she hopes will become more than just a friend.  A lot of people in college and otherwise have long distance boyfriends & what better time to go see them?  Also, a lot of people have maybe boyfriends (crushes) they hope will become actual boyfriends after a prolonged visit.  THIS is your book for that!
  • The Outfit: I put together 2 here.  One is a little more flirty for gals going to visit their SO's.  The other one is toned-down for people going to see their crushes.  Also, headphones match the cover, but are also a plus for those long car-rides/flights.... and how freaking cute is that phone case???

COACHELLA

The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour- Pub Date: An oldie but a goodie from 2012

  • Since Coachella is in April, I figured it would be a good Spring get-away spot.  The Disenchantments is a Road Trip book about a girl-band going on a mini-tour.  It's the perfect book to get you in the mood to rock out!
  • The Outfit(s): Since this is a full weekend event, I included 2 outfits.  You gotta have a jean jacket for when the night cools off, and the hat and scarf to protect from the killer desert sun.  Comfy shoes are a must, and I love a ponytail braid for all day events.
  • PS- I've recently taken to wearing shorts like these under my skirts and dresses when I know I'm going to be running around- so that I don't have to worry about things showing that I don't want to show.  I saw a girl doing it at BEA one year and thought it was GENIUS!!

STAYING IN

The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater- Pub Date for final book: April 26

  • And then sometimes you're looking forward to Spring Break just to have a break from it all.  A whole week just to veg out and binge read an addicting series.  I'm definitely going to rec The Raven Boys series because these beautifully written books are not only addicting, but also since the last book is releasing in April, there won't be any waiting involved.
  • The Outfit: All comfy and nothing fancy.  Of course, I included a Cabeswater blanket and book pillow to lounge on.

I hope everyone has a good Spring Break (even if it is just a long Easter weekend).  What are you planning on going/reading/wearing during yours??

Any of these books you are excited to get your hands on?  Have you read any of these books?  What would you rec?
