ARC August-- Wrap-Up Post

I don't do a lot of reading challenges (mostly because I always fail at them), but I do ARC August because I usually need an extra push to read extra ARCs from conferences and bookmail.

This year I made a list of books I wanted to read-- HAHAHA, there were 10 books on that list.  There was no way I was meeting that goal, and I knew it.  But I wanted options (because- mood reader), and  so--

These were the books I was hoping to read:

These are the books I actually read:

Favorite:

  • Oh please don't make me choose between The Arsonist and Follow Me Back and The Forgetting!!
  • I loved all 3 for completely different reasons, and I think I might have found my top 3 for the year (but what order to put them in???).
Least Favorite:
  • This is How it Happened by Paula Stokes.
  • Meh.  I wasn't feeling the emotions like I thought I would, and I didn't like Genevieve.  It was my first book by this author, and I was expecting a lot more from the writing based on what I've heard about her books.  Big let-down.
Why the random?
  • I'm such a mood reader!!  Even though I picked PLENTY of books on my initial list, I still went rogue and read This is How it Happened and In Some Other Life because that's what I thought I was in the mood for.
Top Priorities from my original list:
  • I still want to read those books that I didn't get to.  September is a PACKED month for books, but my top priorities are going to be:
  • I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski, The Big F by Maggie Ann Martin, and Black Birds of the Gallows by Meg Kassel.
  • BUT--- you never know what I'll be feeling the need to read!!  The life of a mood reader is rough.

6/10 isn't TERRIBLE.  Especially for me. I can't wait to see how everyone else did for their ARC August!!  I'll be on the lookout for all the wrap-up posts :)

Have you read any of these books??  Tell me your thoughts!

  1. 6 out of 10 is great, especially when you're reading other stuff, too!

  2. I read Genuine Fraud - but I really want to read The Arsonist. I'm glad to hear you liked it so much! I only have a few more September review books to read, which I'm excited about because there are a LOT of books out in September - and October!

    1. The Arsonist was SO GOOD!! So interesting and different from what I was expecting! September and October do look like amazing months for books-- I'm trying to figure out what I'll have time for!

  3. Great job! I've only finished one of the ARCs I planned to read this month. Oops. I haven't been reading much in print and only really completed audiobooks this month. Oh well.

    1. If you're in the mood for audio, do audio!! You don't want to make reading not fun by forcing something you're not in the mood for :)

  5. 6/10 is pretty darn good. I have so many ARCs to read it is overwhelming! In Some Other Life is one I want to read so bad. I have had the Forgetting on my TBR so glad to hear you liked it.

    1. I really think In Some Other Life is a YOU book. I hope you like it as much as I did!! The Forgetting is really good, and that's saying something since it's not a genre I usually like that much.

  6. I am a mood reader too, which is why I only do weekly TBRs. I cannot plan out a month. Too much pressure! I really like Follow Me Back, and cannot wait for the next book. I have been wanting to read The Forgetting since BEA last year (in my defense, my co-blogger had it at school all last year.)

    1. I can't wait for Follow Me Back #2!!! WHY is it so far away?!?!?!!! The Forgetting is so good. You should definitely give it a try.

I am terrible at planning. Weekly TBRs sound like a much better idea!

  7. That is actually pretty awesome! I am a mood reader too, but I do better if I have some kind of reading plan... I don't know why. There are books I have to read (for book club, the occasional blog tour, and arcs for the bookstore newsletter or author events), so I guess that's made me less of a mood reader over the last few years. So I can make myself read something if I must, but given the choice, I'll just read what I want. ;) I liked A Genuine Fraud, and I'm hoping to pick up Follow Me Back!

    1. I do read books for book clubs and blog tours, so I guess I'm not as much of a mood reader as I'm claiming. I think it's just books that I don't HAVE to read, that I'll skip over for books I'm feeling in the mood for.

  8. I think you did a great job! I only read 3 out of my list of about 10, but at least I read some of them. There's always so much to catch up with! I'm a mood reader too so that factors in a lot of the time. I really want to read The Forgetting soon.

  9. I actually just finished an ARC of Welcome Home, an anthology by 30 amazing authors about adoption stories. I'm REALLY excited about reviewing it! I don't know what to pick up next because there are many amazing releases that I'm looking forward to.
On my September TBR I made a poll that will run for a while so that people could vote for what I should pick. I still have to read a couple of overdue ARCs, but I know that I'll get to them soon. I'm glad you had a good reading month!
