The End of Year Fear-- AKA My Reading Failures

It's that time of year again-- BOOK READING PANIC TIME!!

With 2018 fast approaching, I have the inevitable stack of books that I wanted to read this year, but haven't yet.  No matter how fast I read for the rest of 2017, I'm never going to be able to read all the books I originally wanted to, and that SUCKS!!  The fact that I don't read fast enough (or at least as fast as some of you guys) and the fact that I'm a crazy mood reader, always equals unread books that make me sad.

Here are the books that I really really really want to read by the end of 2017:

Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin
We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
First We Were IV by Alexandra Sirowy
The Hanging Girl by Eileen Cook
Hunting Prince Dracula (Stalking Jack the Ripper #2) by Kerri Maniscalco
I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski

  • I am the BIGGEST Nina LaCour & Sarah Mlynowski fan--- what am I doing with my life???

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
Bad Girls With Perfect Faces by Lynn Weingarten
Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
Follow Me (The Amateurs #2) by Sara Shepard
This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis
The Knowing (The Forgetting #2) by Sharon Cameron
A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Beck

  • These are all Fall books, so I'm really not THAT far behind on them, but still.....

Another thing bumming me out is that I'm 15 books behind schedule on my Goodreads Challenge.  True, I fail at this every year, but I was hoping this would be MY year.  Since I refuse to make realistic goals for myself, I'll probably be feeling like this every year :(

Now, I need your help!!  Which books from this list should I make a top priority to get done before 2018 comes along??

    1. Bummer about HANGING GIRL. I started it this morning and I'm not sure I'm going to love it either. I was hoping for a WITH MALICE kind of feel. I hope I can get to at least some of these before the year is over.

  2. OMG we both need to read Turtles and Foolish Hearts. also, Aftercare Instructions is one of my favorite books this year, so I definitely, SUPER recommend that one. And I wouldn't worry about being far behind; I still haven't even read ACOWAR yet and that came out in May! Good luck!

    1. YAY!!! AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS does sound really good. I'll be bumping that up on my list, thanks!! (and I still haven't read The Raven King or Winter-- so don't even get me started on series fails).

  3. I'm so excited to read Foolish Hearts! I just got a copy in the mail yesterday and I'm going to read it ASAP! I didn't like First We Were IV AT ALL. We Are Okay is a super quick read if you want to get your momentum up! And I love Hunting Prince Dracula but it took me a while to read since it's so much longer than the first book!

    1. I LOVED This Adventure Ends, so I'm super excited for FOOLISH HEARTS. Plus, she gets the BEST covers for her books!! Bummer about FIRST WE WERE IV-- I was nervous because it doesn't sound like her other books, which were suspenseful!!

  4. Hunting Prince Dracula!! Because I loved it oh so much. Oh, and I have Turtles All the Way Down too that I really need to read. It's one I bought so you know those always get pushed down the list. haha I think all readers end the year with books they wish they had read but didn't have time for, which sucks, but sigh...I guess that's a good thing to right? So many great sounding books out in the world!

    1. I really loved Stalking Jack the Ripper and feel terrible that I haven't read Hunting Prince Dracula. I blame it on my mood reading and not being in the exact right mood for vampires.

  5. You're not a failure! Trust me, if you saw how many books I never finished...oh boy. But let's no focus on that, there's still plenty of time to get in a few more awesome books before the year is over, and I suggest either The Hanging Girl or Aftercare Instructions :)

  6. You're not a failure!! I've read 150 books this year, which is a new reading record for me. BUT I am totally behind on all the books I've meant to read this year. I become so side tracked with other books to read, which is the story of my life!!

I have Turtles All the Way Down by John Green (autographed copy, thank you very much!!) on my reading list!! I'd add that book to finish before the year is up + read both books by Nina LaCour & Sarah Mlynowski.... And 'After Care Instructions' by Bonnie Pipkin... I have that book on my ever growing reading wishlist and would love to read your review/take on that book.

  7. YAY for Aftercare Instructions, We Are Okay, and Hunting Prince Dracula! Aftercare Instructions is severely underhyped, in my opinion, and Hunting Prince Dracula is one of my favorite sequels of the year. I'm also hoping to get to Foolish Hearts by the end of the year!

    1. Madalyn -- I thought Aftercare Instructions was phenomenal, and I agree, it needs more hype.

    1. :) Thank you!! I always fail because I set unrealistic goals. I am a self-hater and love to set myself up for whatever reason. But YES, I will bump up THE HANGING GIRL.

  10. We all need a time turner I say! Time has passed this year far too quickly. I still need to catch up on to a TONNE of series I'm behind in thanks to uni (How I've avoided spoilers so far is a miraculous mystery)

    1. Thank you!!! I always panic at this time of year for whatever reason. I guess it's just that all the unread books catch up to me when I'm starting the think of year end awards and my favorites of the year :(
