Top Ten Tuesday- New to Me Authors in 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (December 17th) I'm one of them :)

 Today's Topic

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

1.  Huntley Fitzpatrick- I really loved and became obsessed with My Life Next Door.  It's so freaking cute and good and amazing!  I know Huntley Fitzpatrick is going to be a favorite of mine for years to come :)

2.  Michelle Hodkin- This book really surprised me.  I didn't think I would be that into it since it's not what I usually read.  But I was unable to put it down.  I had some issues with the romance in the book, but the writing was so good!  I'll definitely read whatever Ms. Hodkin writes.

3.  Libba Bray- I read The Diviners and was like why is this the first book I'm reading by this author??  It was so well done, I was blown away.

4.  Megan Miranda- I really liked Hysteria and could definitely read more books like it :)

5.  April Henry- YES to thriller/mysteries making a comeback!  Definitely want to read more by this author.

6.  Jessica Brody- How did I just discover Jessica Brody this year??  She's AWESOME!

7.  Barry Lyga- Yeah The Jasper Dent series is addicting!  I love books about serial killers and this is SO unique.

8.  Matthew Quick- I read Silver Linings Playbook and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock without knowing it was written by the same author (at first).  Leonard Peacock hurt my heart and Silver Linings Playbook was just okay for me.  But I really like the way this author writes!

9.  Mike Mullin- Oh yes Ashfall freaked me out and made me fall in love.  Can't wait until Sunrise comes out!

10.  Rainbow Rowell- And this is my favorite new author of my year!  Fangirl rocked my world.  How is it possible to write so good??

So this year was kind of disappointing  reading-wise for me.  I didn't get to read near as many books as I wanted to... and even though I found some really cool authors this year, I feel like 2012 was a better year for me.

Who did you discover this year???

  11. Rainbow Rowell was new to me too this year and I am head over heels in love with her writing! I also ADORE Lyga's Jasper Dent books. I listen to them on audio and I got mega chills. The narrator is FANTASTIC. You also remind me that I need to pick up those Matthew Quick books I own and read them...so much love for him in the book world.

  12. Yes! This year was the year for Rainbow for me too! I still need to read Attachments but I'm trying to plan it just right so I only have a couple months before Landline comes out so I don't have to be Rainbow-less for that long! haha

I need to read Huntley's books! they just FEEL like me books! I've never read Libba Bray which is surprising bc I ADORE her as a person. How embarrassing! I need to rectify this! Matthew Quick ALMOST made my list but I only read Leonard. Do you think SLN is worth reading if you watched the movie first?

    1. I watched the movie first and then read the book. I loved the movie way better than the book. There are a lot of differences and the movie has more of a story to it. It goes to more places and has more meaning. The book was more about the mental illness aspect, but I liked it.

  14. We are seriously like twins with the books that we read and love! I can't believe I forgot to add Silver Linings Playbook to my list it was so awesome. I'm really glad to see another Diviners fan. You took the challenge and you read that huge book!!!

I'm on-and-off reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and I wasn't really expecting to like it at all, but man is it good! I seriously have to force myself to stop reading it! My Life Next Door made my list too, it is just so amazing and I can't wait for the second book!

  16. I really need to read something by Libba Bray. I feel like an impostor YA reader/blogger! And Matthew Quick is so great, I still need to read Leonard Peacock, I'm waiting until I want a really sad book, but I loved Silver Linings Playbook and Sorta Like a Rock Star. And I agree about Rainbow, her writing and story telling just blows my mind.

  18. I still want to read Huntley Fitzpatrick! I liked the first Mara Dyer better than the second, but still can't wait to see what Michelle Hodkin gives us in 2014! Ack, and I need to read THE DIVINERS! We need more thriller writers like April Henry for sure! I love Jessica Brody, great choice! I KNEW I knew Matthew Quick's name when I saw FORGIVE ME, LEONARD PEACOCK at the store. Didn't realize it was because of SLP. I'm reading Rainbow Rowell right now! I just finished ELEANOR AND PARK and am reading FANGIRL now!

  21. I need to read Huntley Fitzpatrick, I've had a book on my wishlist for so long and Life Next Door seems just like a book I'd love. Michelle Hodkin's book has been on my TBR shelf for more than a year, I'm waiting until the series finishes so I can marathon. I feel the same about Rainbow Rowell, she's amazing!

  22. I can't believe you've never read Libba Bray before either! Her first trilogy is most like The Diviners, but her other books are supposed to be awesome as well (and completely different. I've been meaning to get to those for ages!). The Mara Dyer series is INSANE right?? Like seriously. I felt like I was slowly going mad and I didn't know what was happening hahaha. I still haven't made it to any Rainbow Rowell books yet, but Fangirl is being made a top priority for 2014 for me!

  23. I need to read a lot of these authors!! I still need to read Libba Bray and Barry Lyga and Rainbow Rowell. LOL I have Eleanor & Park by the last one though, so I'm ready to find some time for that! That's great you found some awesome authors this year even if you didn't read as much as you would have liked.

  24. AMAZING list! This is packed full of authors that I haven't read yet but am dying too! I am really hoping that I get a few of these authors books for Christmas; if the boyfriend has been paying attention that is. Would be especially excited to see Rainbow Rowel's and Mike Mullin's books under my tree :) Am just about to start My Life Next Door, so I am happy to hear that you loved it :) My TTT.

  26. You have made me curious about Barry Lyga - so much so that I have begun looking at the Jasper Dent titles on Goodreads. I think I am going to try the first in the series, I HUNT KILLERS.
