Are There Any Guys Out There??
Reading
This is a question I would LOVE for you librarians out there to answer for me. Are there males checking out YA at your libraries? I'm really curious about it!! I feel like a lot of YA is written with a girl audience in mind... and a lot of the covers are totally girly. Not to say that there aren't books that are clearly written with a male reader in mind, but those are in the minority. So what's the deal?? Do boys not like to read (generally) as much as girls?? Are they embarrassed to read YA? Does it make them feel uncool to be marked as a "reader"? What is it??? Because I know tons of adult dudes who read A LOT. But when I was a teenager, NONE of the boys in my HS were ever carrying around a book.Blogging
Same with blogging. I know TONS of girls who blog about YA... but guys?? Not so much. There is Real Men Read YA. This guy is really funny AND he reads YA. And that's about all I know as far as bloggers go.
Recs
So if there are any guys out there (and if you're reading this, I commend you for not being scared off by the PINK in my blog name/design), I would LOVE to recommend some books for you... in fact I already did: Check out my Top Ten Tuesday- Recommendations for Teen Boys.
BUT sides from the ones I recommended on my TTT, I'd also like to include ones that seem to me like they would be popular among boys:
I want to know what you guys know!! Are there any YA-er guys out there?? What are they reading?? What would you tell them to read?? Do you know any cool guy book bloggers?
I would like to find more male bloggers myself. I know of Brunner's Bookshelf but that's it for me too: http://brunnersbookshelf.blogspot.com/

Oh yeah and I think there's a guy who is on Cuddlebuggery's crew too. Just checked out Brunner's Bookshelf. Very cool!! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteHmmm, the only guy blogger that I know of is BookYAReview, but that's it. I never realized how girl oriented book blogging is!
ReplyDeleteI just thought of one more too O'Dell at BookTwirps. So that's like 5! Gotta get more guy opinions on this YA stuff!!
DeleteI agree, I wonder why this is such a female audience, surely everyone reads but why are girls the only ones who blog about it? The only blog I came across with a male write is Eddie from the Book Gazer, I really like his voice in his reviews.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I am REALLY bad at this!! Really bad! I couldn't think of one blogger who is male (YA bloggerm that is), same with books for boys. I definitely think most great YA books work for boys as well - in priniciple. But in reality, I know my little brother would never even touch series like Delirium, Under the Never Sky - or even Divergent. They sound pretty girly and not really "cool" for boys, I think. On the other hand, I think series like Gone (which I haven't read yet) sounds a lot more "boy" - ish and acceptable!
ReplyDeleteI am not a librarian, but I have stumbled upon at least two guys who blog: Alex at electrifyingreviews.com, James at BookChicClub.blogspot.com.
