Top Ten Books That Will Make You Cry
This is kind of hard for me because I seriously cry so easily while reading books. I guess I get so involved that I feel like I can feel the characters emotions or something. I mean I cried while reading Fangirl, Pushing the Limits, Lola and the Boy Next Door, Hate List, Twenty Boy Summer, Speak, Lock and Key.... SO MANY. I cry while reading books that aren't even sad!! So these are the ones I feel like anyone would find sad (not just me).
1. The Pact by Jodi Picoult- I had to get Jodi Picoult on this list. Most of her books have made me cry and this one is probably the one that got me hardest.
2. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher- Poor Clay :(
3. Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott- The M/C in this is very damaged and it just touched me.
4. Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King- Definitely hurts the heart.
5. Looking for Alaska by John Green- UGHHHH I didn't expect what happened to happen and then I could not STOP crying!!! John Green you kill me!!
6. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling- Cried so damn hard reading this book. Why did that have to happen???? WHY???
7. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick- Oh god I cried for HOURS during and after this book!!! I was pretty embarrassed for myself.
8. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green- This book affected me on such a deep emotional level that I was honestly left in a book depression that lasted for DAYS. I cried at home, at school, and anywhere else I was caught reading this book. Hands down most emotional book ever and if you don't cry during it, I question your emotions :)
9. The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson- Heart-wrenching.
10. Hold Still by Nina LaCour- Sad sad sad. Sometimes friend-loss books can be so hard for me to read.
I love to read books that make me cry because I just feel so much more connected to them. But I don't think I ever want to cry as hard as when I read TFIOS ever again. That was a little too much. What books make you sob?
Fantastic list!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the feels with TFioS was just too much... Seeing the trailer brought it all back and I cried just watching that.
It's interesting reading these lists. I have like a mental checklist going "yep, yep, yep, nope, nope." I'm one of those few people who didn't like THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I will agree with you about Jodi Picoult books. They get me every time.
I'm reading TFIOS finally and I'm already fighting back tears. I know it's going to wreck me. :( And I really have to buy The Sky Is Everywhere. I recently put it in my amazon wishlist so I wouldn't forget next time I'm doing a big purchase.
ReplyDeleteI loved Hold Still as well. Very touching. Reminded me a bit of Speak - b/c they both built something out of trees to recover. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have some good books on your list...some almost made mine as well, like Hold Still and The Sky is Everywhere. Though I am one of the few people who didn't cry for TFiOS.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT is here.
I plan on reading TFIOS before the movie release. I have seen that book on just about everyone's top ten list this week. I guess I should stock up on tissues.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!! Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.com/2014/02/top-ten-tuesday-books-that-will-make.html#comment-form
I forgot all about Thirteen Reasons Why. That book was so sad. And I loved Hold Still, although I didn't cry for that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting.
My TTT List
It looks like a lot of us sobbed over Harry Potter! I don't see how anyone couldn't cry while reading The Fault in Our Stars either. I forgot about 13 Reasons Why though. That one was a pretty emotional read & the ending got me. Great list!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I need to add some of the sobfest list to my TBR.
ReplyDeleteHere is My Top 10 Tuesday
The Fault In Our Stars is definitely on the "never to be read" list! I have seen it WAY too many times today! I can't believe I forgot about Jodi Picoult! It's been a while since I cried over one of hers so that must be why it didn't come to mind. Great List!

I feel like whenever you mention Leonard Peacock I leave a comment saying I have to read it, but I do! But I know that I will cry a lot and I just haven't felt like I've wanted that in a while, you know? And yeah, The Sky is Everywhere, you saw that on my list and oh my god, the tears. But I would read it all over again in a heartbeat (which should probably be a lesson to me about reading other sad books!).
ReplyDeleteThirteen Reasons Why and The Fault in Our Stars made my list too! I still need to read Looking for Alaska :)
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! I had Deathly Hallows on my list, but the last three books all make me cry like crazy. I also had The Sky Is Everywhere, such an emotional book. I LOVE Jodi Picoult, and her books all seem to make me sob and I had to put My Sister's Keeper on my .list. My TTT :)
ReplyDeletePlease Ignore Vera Dietz, The Sky is Everywhere, and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock are all on my TBR shelf! I'll have to remember to break out the tissues when I get to them. And the Fault in Our Stars made me CRY so much!! Hmm I don't remember if I cried while reading The Pact...that's a good one, though :)
ReplyDeleteI tend to cry so easily over the smallest scenes in books, but I like it when books are able to evoke such strong emotions from you. I'm glad to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on your list, this book was such a killer for me. I have copies of Hold Still and Please Ignore Vera Dietz, so I can't wait to get started on them! Great list and thanks for stopping by! :)
ReplyDeleteJodi Piccoult is just guaranteed to make you cry! I think it's odd that I go out of my way to avoid adult books that make me cry (after something like my second or third Piccoult book I decided I couldn't handle reading her books anymore haha), but I LOVE YA books that devastate me. Where's the sense in that? There isn't any!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with The Pact... I think A LOT (if not all) of Jodi Picoult's books have reduced me to tears. The Pact in particular really got to me, I just felt so bad for the main female character (can't remember her name) because she was in such an impossible situation and just couldn't see a good way to extricate herself.
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter: there will never come a day when I can read these books without ugly crying.
YES Please Ignore Vera Dietz, Thirteen Reasons Why and definitely Harry Potter! I don't think it's possible not to cry if you've grown up with all the HP books. Great list! :)

I LOVE The Sky is Everywhere. Definitely an ultimate cry fest. So good though.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on Harry Potter!! Gosh I really need to read TFIOS. I'm just scared!
ReplyDeleteI love Jodi Picoult's books. So emotional. Obviously TFIOS and HP had readers weeping everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI so want to read Love You Hate You Miss You!! I don't know why I hadn't heard about that one before but I just checked it out and it's right up my alley! I LOVED 13 Reasons Why, and of course all the HP books rock my face! I also have had The Sky is Everywhere on my TBR for too long I need to fix this! >.<
