Top Ten Tuesday- Debut Authors That Made Me Want To Read More

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (November 3rd) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Debut Authors Who Have Me Looking Forward To Their Sophomore Novel

I love debut books!!  I actively try to read as many as possible, so I am definitely excited to do this topic!

1.  Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews- I just loved this LOL book (and movie) and cannot wait for The Haters in 2016!
2.  Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang- I liked this book and thought it showed a lot of potential for the author.  Where the World Ends (March 2016) sounds really good and I look forward to it.
3.  Tease by Amanda Maciel- I LOOOOOVED this book.  Loved. Loved.  A Perfect Disaster (May 2016) sounds just as good!
4.  Brutal Youth by Anthony Breznican- Another one of my favorites!!  It was such a powerful debut, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
5.  Those Girls by Lauren Saft- This book!!!  I could not put it down.  It was my perfect beach read.  I'm really excited for anything and everything else that she writes!
6.  My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal- This YA mystery was solid.  It didn't become a favorite, but it made me interested to read more by this author.
7.  What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler- This was his YA fiction debut (previously he had written a memoir), and I thought he did a great job with it.  I didn't love everything about it, but enough to want to know what else is going to come from him.
8.  Uses for Boys by Erica Lorraine Scheidt- This was one of the most honest and gritty books I ever read.  It was hard to read at times, but it was a story that I'm glad was told.  I can't even imagine what she will come up with next!
9.  Being Henry David by Cal Armistead- I really enjoyed this one and hope she's planning on writing more.
10.  Crash and Burn by Michael Hassan- Dear Mr. Hassan, please write more.  This book was epic and became one of my all-time favorites.  Don't make me cry :(  Sincerely, Michelle

Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin
-I know she's written 3 books, but I'm really curious what she's going to do now that Mara Dyer is over.

Which debut authors are you loving this week??

  1. I haven't read most of these. I didn't love Me Earl and the Dying Girl but I would love to see the next book. I do really want to read Brutal Youth, Those Girls and What We Saw. Great list!

  2. I've read a lot of these and cannot WAIT to read Jesse Andrews' next book, Amy Zhang and even Michelle Hodkin... I loved the Mara Dyer first book but only felt okay about the others--I'd love to see a standalone from her! Great list, Michelle. (and yes you do need to read more Lauren Oliver ;-))

    1. I feel you on the Mara Dyer books. I think I liked the first one the best too. I KNOW I didn't care for the last one! That ending pissed me off!!!

  3. Great list! I thought Me Earl and the Dying Girl was just okay, mainly because I didn't really like the main character. However, I do want to read more of Jesse Andrews in the future! I haven't read Mara Dyer yet, but I'm hoping to change that soon!

  4. I've heard so much about Tease - I need to pick it up!

Check out my TTT and the weekly meme I hosting on my blog Music Monday.

  5. Ooooooo I wasn't aware that Amanda Maciel had another book on the way! I really liked Tease and A Perfect Disaster looks great. I will definitely have to remember the release date for that one! I've not read anything by Amy Zhang, but really liked the look of Falling Into Place and it's been on my TBR for a while so hoping to get round to that one soon! I've also never read the Mara Dyer series but I have heard some really great things. So many books to read! I hope you get to read the sophomores that you have wished for on this list! Happy reading! :)

  6. I have almost every book on your list on my TBR. Maybe it's time I finally read those titles.
Great list. Check out my TTT when you get the chance :)

  7. Ahh, I totally forgot Falling into Place and Amy Zhang - can't wait for This is Where The World Ends!

  8. Wonderful list. I haven't read many of these, but the ones I did were ones I really enjoyed. I am going to have to add a few of these to my TBR, as they sound really interesting - especially Brutal Youth and Tease.

  9. I also am looking forward to the next book from the Uses for Boys author. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Those Girls, since I recently got a copy of it and have been meaning to read it. I also totally agree with you about Michelle Hodkin! I need her next book now!

  10. I haven't read these yet - but several are in my TBR pile!

  11. Wow, I didn't know half these authors had other books coming out ! Zhang is only 18 or 19, so it seems like she has a long writing career ahead of her.

  12. Okay, this is so embarrassing but I think I've only read one of these books. *hides head in shame* Apparently I need to check out quite a few of these, for sure!! :)

  13. I've read about half the books on your list -- also really liked Uses for Boys and am hoping she writes another..

  14. You list looks like my unread bookshelf. I seriously have all but two of these, and have only read ONE (Falling Into Place). FiP wasn't my favorite BUT I loved Amy's writing, and I agree with you that there is tons of potential there! I am excited for Where the World Ends too! Great list :)

  15. Jesse Andrews has a great career if he keeps writing spoofy books based on current popular novels. I would LOVE for him to take a stab at another JG book!
