Top Ten Books That Surprised Me Because of TWISTS
- I'm not going to tell you the twists, so don't worry about that. These books are all here because of twists I did not see coming, or twists that I did see coming but couldn't have imagined the nature of the twist.
1. Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas- Totally got mindfucked on this ending.
2. Blood of My Blood (Jasper Dent #3) by Barry Lyga- I knew there was going to be a big finale twist, but there's no way I would have predicted the ickiness of it.
3. Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer- The "twist" in this book was enraging. I just wanted to beat this book with something after reading what the real deal with Jam was.
4. The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr- I wasn't even looking for a twist in this one because it's about a girl who has no memory traveling alone. I thought it was just a journey book-- and then it was about so much more!!
5. Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn- There's no way I could have figured this twist out-- and I've always wondered where the idea of it even came from because it's so out there.
6. Be True to Me by Adele Griffin- This is another book where I wasn't expecting a twist & OMG!!!
7. After the Woods by Kim Savage- When everything comes out about what really happened to Julia-- I was floored.
8. Winger (#1) by Andrew Smith- GAHHHHH. Why did Andrew Smith want to kill my feelings when I was having such a good time?
9. Final Girls by Riley Sager- I saw the first twist coming... but the 2nd and 3rd ones?? I was pretty surprised.
10. Shadowlands by Kate Brian- If you saw the twist coming in this book, I either want to say GTFO or ask you to tell me your smarty-pants secrets. This one was the mindfuck of all mindfucks.
Which books surprised you??
Ooh Dangerous Girls *nods* Loved that twist, after my jaw got up off the floor. Final Girls sounds awesomely twisty too...
ReplyDeleteI love it when a book surprises you with a big twist! Even though sometimes it breaks your heart. But we readers are masochists anyway and love having our feels stomped on all the time. xD
ReplyDeleteOh, I totally agree with Dangerous Girls. That was a good one! Umm...I kind of guessed this "twist" but it's still really amazing - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie.

ReplyDeleteAhhh...I love a good unexpected twist. I haven't read any of these books, but I own a majority of them. I've heard great things about Another Little Piece so I'm going to try and read it soon.
ReplyDeleteDangerous Girls and Final GIrls twists got me too!!! I want to read After the Woods at some point.

I still need to read Dangerous Girls!! I read Dangerous Boys and liked it enough but I heard Girls is even better. Also, totally agree on Shadowlands!! What a huuuuge twist. I loved that series, even though many people didn't like it after that twist.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time I was curious about Belzhar, but with the passage of time (and probably reading others reviews), I've kind of lost interest. I do still have Shadowlands on my shelf though. So maybe someday I'll give that one a chance! :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read all of these books. How have I not read any of these books??

Dangerous Girls just kept twisting me up. I love it! Flora and Belzhar were two books I enjoyed very much. I think the things that bugged you about Belzhar were things I liked. XD. Oh, Winger! That chapter that broke me, was what, a few lines, if I am remembering correctly. But wow! The emotional impact was unreal. There are tears in my eyes as I write this. I was mad about Be True to Me. So mad! I have no words.
ReplyDeleteWinger is fantastic - and I loved the sequel as well. *sniff*

Wowww these sound so good! The only ones I have read are Dangerous Girls (totally agree!) and After the Woods, but I have quite a few of the other ones and now you have made me really want to read them! Because who doesn't love a good twist in a book? And I have trouble finding really good ones so these sound extra promising! Great list!
ReplyDeleteI agree about After the Woods. I had figured out some of it, but I still loved seeing it all unfold!
