This week (March 27) the topic is:
Spring Fever: Top Ten Books I'd Play Hooky With
So I'm gonna go ahead and say that these are books that you could call in sick and stay in bed all day reading?? Ok so these are books I've already read that I would've wanted to hide out in my bedroom reading all day/night. (I may actually have on a few of these)
1. The Boyfriend List By: E. Lockhart- So Funny!! A great book to read right through! I loved Ruby and all her Ag!s, calling herself a famous slut and a leper, and her words for hooking up (shockingly advanced, )
2. Harry Potter By: J.K. Rowling- Ok if you haven't read this, you must immediately call out of school/off work and read.... and don't stop 'til you're done. Seriously it's not just a YA thing, it's an all ages/genres reading thing!
3. Can You Keep a Secret By: Sophie Kinsella / 20 Times A Lady By Karyn Bosnak: - Either one (or both) are freaking hilarious. If you just want to stay in bed and laugh all day and feel better about your life, read these!
4. The Nanny Diaries By Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus: - Such a cute book... the movie doesn't do it justice... oh and don't bother reading ANYTHING ELSE by these 2 authors, it's all AWFUL! (omg Nanny Returns, Citizen Girl!?!? Seriously I would like to use those 2 to start my fireplace)
5. CRANK By: Ellen Hopkins- I know it's kind o f a downer, but it's definitely a book that you can't put down, so it would be good for an all day-er.
6. Pretty Little Liars By: Sara Shepard- Personally I love the show even more than the books, but the first book is a must read for YA. And it can be read super fast.
7. The Notebook By: Nicholas Sparks- I'm not the biggest Nicholas Sparks fan in the world, but this one is pretty great. It is one you should be alone for because you're going to cry.
8. Any Sarah Dessen Book- Some are better than others, but if you've never read one, get on it!!!
9. Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) By: Sarah Mlynowski- It was my favorite book of last year. I could probably find a reason to put it on every list.... hmmm maybe I will ;)
10. The Devil Wears Prada By: Laura Weisberger: So much better than the movie (and the movie was cute). If you have a day off, who wouldn't want to read about fashion and psycho bosses... oh wait, maybe you're trying to escape your psycho boss, well whoever it is can't be as bad as Miranda!

DeleteHarry Potter is a definite hooky contender- I don't know why those books aren't on my list! I played hooky with them all the time in my younger days! Wish I could read them all over again for the first time :-(

Yes I used to walk around while I was reading the newest Harry Potter book with it under my arm at ALL TIMES... I looked like such a weirdo, but I didnt care :)

'Can You Keep a Secret' is probably my favorite Kinsella! Freaking hilarious! I was reading it on a plane, and I was laughing out loud! People were staring at me and I just had to hold up the book and tell them they should read it because it was fantastic!

ReplyDeleteCool choices, Michelle. So you liked the Little Liars series? I love the TV show, but I can't decide if I want to read the books or not. I mean, I feel like I already know what happens. But if they're fun to read, and go quickly, maybe I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the Nanny Diaries - I LOVED it, but then I tried to read Citizen Girl and couldn't even get past the first chapter. I don't want to read about someone's horrible boss! Did you read The Nanny Returns? It was pretty good. Not as good as the original, but pretty good. It was nice to see what happened to all the characters.
I read the PLL books before the show, but then I ended up liking the show way better. The books are not exactly the same as the show... like in the books the girls aren't really friends at all, which is why I think I like the show better. They are super-quick to read, but now Sara Shepard just wants to keep extending it, so there's like a million of them.
DeleteI tried to read Nanny returns, but just couldn't get into it. I didn't want to see Grayer as a grown man, it felt weird. uhh I think Citizen Girl is one of my all time worst books ever. I kept reading it thinking it had to get better, but it never did..... actually it got a lot worse.

ReplyDeleteI loved Ten Things We Did by Sarah Mlynowski! The perfect fun little read, it had me laughing and wishing I got into her antics (but not really haha). And agreed about Devil Wears Prada! A few years ago it was a book I just kept coming back to, I'd leave it on my desk and just flip it open and start reading on random days.
