Top Ten Tuesday- Favorite Contemp Authors

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (October 16th) I'm one of them :)

This weeks topic is Top Ten Favorite Authors In X Genre
I chose:

Top Ten Favorite Contemporary Authors

1.  Courtney Summers- Author of Some Girls Are, Fall For Anything.  She can do no wrong.  Even when she went zombie I still loved her!

2.  Stephanie Perkins- Author of Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door.  Her writing is freaking greatness!  Even though Lola wasn't my favorite story in the world I still loved the writing... and Anna was such a great surprise for me!  Plus she just looks like a fun person!

3.  Sarah Dessen- Author of Just Listen, This Lullaby.  She's the Queen of YA Contemporary.  It's where everyone should start.

4.  Jay Asher- Author of 13 Reasons Why, The Future of Us.  Loved both!!  He comes up with some really unique ideas... creativity gets bonus points with me :)

5.  John Green- Author of The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska.  After TFIOS I think most people agree that he knows how to write a freaking sob-fest... and some amazing contemp.

6.  Elizabeth Scott- Author of Love You, Hate You, Miss You, Bloom.  The first book there is one of my all-time favs... it just got to me.  And I love that this author writes a lot of books, sometimes I don't like waiting years for the popular guys to get their stuff out!

7.  Laurie Halse Anderson- Author of Speak, Twisted.  LOVE HER!!  But she writes a lot of historical fiction too, which is not my thing... Hey Laurie, write some more YA contemp, I miss you!

8.  Meg Cabot- Author of The Princess Diaries, How to Be Popular (and like 100 more).  She knows how to make me laugh... and how to write a good couple (Mia + Michael = 4 Ever).

9.  E. Lockhart- Author of The Boyfriend List series, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.  I think she's genius.  And Ruby is one of my all-time favorite characters!

10.  Jennifer Brown- Author of The Hate List, Bitter End.  I'm pretty new to the JB fan club, but I'm glad I found her!  The Hate List blew me away!

Honorable Mentions:

Deb Caletti, Sara Shepard (yes I'm hooked on PLL & The Lying Game... finish the series SARA!), Ellen Hopkins (love prose books), Katie McGarry (After Pushing the Limits, this author has potential to be one of my favorites), Megan McCafferty (Jessica Darling was genius), Sara Zarr, C.K. Kelly Martin (except she went dystopian on me), Sara Ockler, Sarah Mlynowski, Jaclyn Moriarty (love Aussie authors!!).

Can't wait to see what categories everyone else chose :)

I need to get to Pushing the Limits- that's one of the few I have not read, and there is so much positive buzz about it.

  4. I have read 13 reasons why by Jay Asher, and I think that his ideas are very brilliant. I would love to read the other book you have read by him, because I became really fascinated by his first book.

    1. Yes it is good, it has that element of something different in it like 13 reasons why does, but its not as near as emotional... more laid back

  15. A lot of people are picking contemporary authors. You have so many authors on your list I still need to explore :p Perkins, Dessen, Anderson, Green..

I have read a book from Elizabeth Scott and I quite liked it :) And I have a book from Dessen on the shelves, so I might pick it up soon. I keep seeing her name.

  16. OOH! There are some incredible contemp authors, aren't there? I have so much love for Elizabeth Scott, John Green, Courtney Summers, Sarah Dessen, Stephanie Perkins, Meg Cabot, Jennifer Brown and E Lockhart. In fact, it's fairly safe to say that if I'd made a list of my favourite contemporary YA authors, it would look almost identical to your list! *high fives* You have awesome taste in books.
