Top Ten Books Hyped Books I've Never Read
Being a blogger, I notice hype a lot more. And sometimes I'll never understand why some books get the hype and really really deserving books don't. These are the ones I've shied away from because of the hype-monster
1. Kasie West- I've wanted to read her books, but there's just SO much talk about them, that I get nervous. Especially because I love Contemporary, so my expectations are high.
2. Sarah J. Maas- Her books are just !!!!! People are nuts for her anymore. I just don't think I can read a book so many people fangirl for. I have Throne of Glass, so we'll see if I can make myself do it.
3. Divergent by Veronica Roth- So hyped!! I saw the movie and that was enough for me... too much trying to be The Hunger Games for me.
4. The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski- Wow this book was everywhere last year!! I've heard great things about it, but it scares me.
5. The Selection by Kiera Cass- Another one that is just everywhere and won't go away.
6. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis- I KNOW this is nuts. I just.... well, when I thought about reading it, I was told it had a lot of religious undertones and I got scared. But everyone has read this book & it's talked about a lot.
7. Paper Towns by John Green- I bought it, but after TFIOS movie came out and the John Green-mania was at it's peak, I was just SO sick of hearing about John Green, that I just couldn't.
8. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel- This is one of those ones I bought because of the hype and hearing so many good things, started it and it didn't start out blowing my mind, so I put it down.
9. Gone series by Michael Grant- Same as with Station Eleven... bought it because of the hype, started it, wasn't impressed, stopped.
10. The Archived by Victoria Schwab- Same as above. Just did not think the beginning of this book was interesting at all.
What books has Hype killed or at least made you hold off on for a little while?
I just finished Stations Eleven. It is good but not great...which is what I expected since it was a National Book Award Finalist, or something like that. Do read Paper Towns. Fun!!!!

Oh but you have to read The Distance Between Us by Kasie West! It's just too cute & fun. Throne of Glass is amazing as well, this coming from a reader who was also scared about the hype ;).
ReplyDeleteAs for Narnia... I love the books, but I enjoyed them back when I was a kid so that's probably something you should consider.

You really should give Throne of Glass a chance. I was late to the party with it, too, but I'm so glad I finally read it. It deserves the hype. The Selection series is one of my favorites, it's very addictive. I hated The Winner's Curse though. I'm in the minority, but I just don't get why it's so hyped up. It was pretty meh. Kasie West really is fabulous. Great list!

Oh, and as for the Divergent series...don't waste your time. Just watch the movies. The third book is so bad I regret reading any of them. I didn't even care to see the movies.
DeleteYeah I don't see myself ever reading Divergent. I saw the movie and I was confused. It was not at all what I thought it would be.

I don't think The Selection is an amazing series, but I found it enjoyable enough! I'm not a massive fan of John Green, but I thought Paper Towns was an okay read! My TTT!

ReplyDeleteI also have Gone on my list for the same reason! Throne of Glass is good and of Kasie West's books The Distance Between Us is okay but not her best. Try On the Fence first :) MyTTT
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on so many of these! All I've heard about the Selection series is that the heroine is beyond whiny and indecisive.
ReplyDeleteI also heard that her name is America Singer and that she's living in what used to be America... and she sings! I mean?!?!?!?!?
DeleteI tend to prefer fantasy over contemporary, but Kasie West's books are always good! I mean, I don't think they're AMAZING, but she has really good humor and the romances are so cute :)

I read Divergent which I enjoyed and then the second book, but I didn't care for it and well the 3rd one was kind of ruined for me so I havent read that yet.

Divergent the book is definitely better than the movie (like, by far) BUT the final book was so bad I don't even recommend it. The Winner's Curse is good- but The Winner's CRIME is even better! I loved Paper Towns. Throne of Glass was okay, but the other books were better. I read Gone, but could NOT continue, even though I own ALL the others. So long and drawn out, BUT I was still curious enough to buy the others, so we'll see. I am super bummed to hear about Station Eleven though- it had looked promising :(

Yeah... I might give Station Eleven another shot. I think I was expecting too much and didn't give it a fair chance.
DeleteI'm not an extremely huge fan of Kasie West's contemporary (in fact, I kind of hated her latest release), but I LOVED her paranormal duology, Pivot Point. :) I wasn't nuts over Throne of Glass (I gave it 2 stars), but the sequels got better (3.5 & 3 stars from me, respectively), and I liked ACOTAR a lot (3.5). I totally understand you not wanting to read Divergent! I liked the first book enough, was meh for the second and gave up on the idea of the third. The Winner's Curse was so good--I really do hope you end up giving it a chance. :) I liked the writing in the Selection, but the book itself seemed kind of pointless to me. I'm sorry you weren't drawn into The Archived. :( It's one of my favorite books, personally!

Throne of Glass and Paper Towns I recommend. The Divergent series was good, I didn't enjoy the film though :/

I've read a few of these myself:
ReplyDeleteThe Distance Between Us - I actually really enjoyed that one and have read every West book since and enjoyed them all, she has yet to disappoint me.
Throne of Glass - Took me a while to get into the first Throne of a Glass book, but I ended up really enjoying it. Have read all the books in the series so far and love them, the series just gets better as it goes along. I also loved her new book, A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Divergent - Read and enjoyed, but has a lot of Hunger Games elements. I thought book one was okay, but didn't really enjoy book two and hated 3, so you aren't missing too much!
The Winner's Curse - I loved this, but no it's a series that divides people.
The Selection - This was NOT good!
Gone - Started the series but got bored and never continued.
I want to read Paper Towns and The Archived and really hope I enjoy them, we shall see!
