And as she meets new friends, including Chase, a talented young actor with big-city dreams, she begins to realize that her own dreams may be bigger than she ever imagined.

Hi Lauren!!  We’re so excited to have your book in our FFBC Tours, and can’t wait to ask you a couple of questions about your new book THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD!!

Hi! Thank you so much for this opportunity!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Favorite Book?

I have so many! It’s hard for me to choose, but my go-to have-read-a-million-times is The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Favorite TV show?

Since I have two children, my TV is typically turned to Mickey Mouse or Paw Patrol. I think I know about adult TV? I THINK? The only show I watch weekly, when it’s on, is The Good Place so we’ll say currently that.

Favorite movie?

I can recite every line of Empire Records

Favorite Song?

I have a tendency to listen to songs from my high school years…still so many years later. So most Rilo Kiley.
Favorite Food?

Any and all pasta.

Name 3 fictional places you would move to in a heartbeat.

Hogwarts x 3. After the Voldemort years.

What were your favorite books growing up?

The Giver and Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. I loved them so much. Also The Westing Game

Favorite Quote?

“Time is short and it doesn’t return again. It is slipping away while I write this and while you read it, and the monosyllable of the clock is Loss, loss, loss, unless you devote your heart to its opposition.” –Tennessee Williams (It relates to the book, too.)

What do you find yourself “Fangirling” over?

Authors, still! Despite being one, I still fangirl like crazy at events.

What recent book would you recommend to our YA fans?

I just finished The Fall of Innocence by Jenny Torres Sanchez and it’s stunning.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Could you tell our Book Addicts a little bit about THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD?

Penny has her life planned out—she’s going to graduate high school, work at her family restaurant (which she’ll one day run), and stay with her high school boyfriend. Her small life is just fine by her. But when she’s accepted into a prestigious theatre summer camp, she starts to doubt her perfectly planned future, and consider something new and scary.

What 3 hashtags would you most associate with your book? (Could be a word or phrase or anything that would instantly make you think of THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD.)

#theater #florida #lifegoals

Besides reading, writing, and blogging, I love fashion!!  What would Penny wear on a typical summer day?

She’s a thrift store shopper, and likes a bit of a vintage look. Her favorite outfit is a black knee-length dress with a white peter pan collar. Kind of like Wednesday Addams.

If you could spend time with one of your characters (from any of your books), who would you pick and why?

I’d want to meet Penny and tell her it’s okay to want more. She may not believe me, because I’d be a total stranger, but I think she needs to hear that.

Tell us your favorite quote from THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD.

“ I want to make millions of decisions and revisions.” I won’t mention context.

Is there a specific scene that you had the most fun to write?  Or which part was the most difficult to get through?

I think the most fun scene is the one that takes place in downtown Orlando, where they run around and have fun, and there’s some bonding between Penny and Chase. Incidentally, it was the hardest to write as well. I’m not sure why! I love writing fun scenes (my first book was literally one fun night), but this one was my writers block moment.

If you had to pick one song to be the Theme Song for THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD– Which one would you pick?

Hm. Theatre book, so I’ll go with a theatre song. “Take What You’ve Got” from the musical Kinky Boots. At one point I thought of titling the book “Rewrite the Plot,” a line from this song.

Are there any recommendations you could give your readers to be in the “perfect mood” to read THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD (specific music, snacks…)?

Saturday afternoon, reading it in the sunshine.

What’s next for you?

I’m not sure! I’m still writing, and we’ll see what happens next!

Thanks so much for chatting with us, Lauren!!  I'm an Empire Records fan also-- and Rex Manning Day is coming up!!
