I Want To Start Reading More Series?? Maybe.

Lately I've been thinking about the lack of series that I'm reading right now.

I feel like I'm at an all-time low with series that I'm honestly still planning on completing, and I have maybe 1 or 2 on the radar to start and that's it!!!  Remember when every other YA book that came out was part of a trilogy???  I mean, I don't really miss those days because INSANITY, but I kind of miss DYING for a sequel or series ender to come out.

I've always had kind of a smaller relationship with series than most of you because I don't read a lot of Fantasy books.

It seems like all Fantasy books are part of a series and very few Contemporary books are (especially the type of Contemporary that I read, which is not Romance).  When the trend of duologies started, I got really excited thinking maybe it would get me to start more series books, but it kind of seems like it hasn't.

Here are the series I'm currently in the middle of:

  • Letters to the Lost (#1) by Brigid Kemmerer- I just recently read this and now VERY MUCH want to read Rev's story, MORE THAN WE CAN TELL.
  • Follow Me Back (#1) by A.V. Geiger- OMG I was addicted to this book when I read it last year.  I will definitely be reading TELL ME NO LIES soon because I have to know what happens after that cliffhanger!!!
  • All Rights Reserved (Word$ #1) by Gregory Scott Katsoulis- I read this during my NEED DYSTOPIAN phase last year and really liked it.  It was an interesting book with almost zero romance (yay!!), so I want to see where it will go from here.
  • Stalking Jack the Ripper (#1) by Kerri Maniscalco- I liked this book and want to continue on, but I got backlogged at the time the 2nd book came out and still have not gotten to it.
  • The Forgetting (#1) by Sharon Cameron- Another book I read during my 2017 DYSTOPIAN PHASE and I LOVEDDDDD IT.  I got a little disappointed when I found out the 2nd book wasn't about the same characters, but hopefully they'll be mentioned at least??
  • Renegades (#1) by Marissa Meyer- I didn't love this, but the ending had me wanting to at least see where the next book goes with it.
  • The Thousandth Floor (#1) by Katharine McGee- I started the 2nd book and was liking it, but for whatever reason I got distracted and didn't finish it.  I really really want to read the 3rd book later this year, so I've got to get with it.
  • Brave New Girl (#1) by Rachel Vincent- The 3rd book in my DYSTOPIAN PHASE.  It was the one I liked least of the 3, but I still kind of want to see what's going to happen in the 2nd book???
  • To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han- Holy shit, I am a failure at life.  I love Lara Jean and everything about this first book, so I will be reading the other books in the series.

This may be a topic for another post, but did you ever notice how you'll be SO excited for a book to come out and when it does somehow you'll pass it over, and before you know it that book that you were like MUST HAVEEEEEE is still sitting there a year or 2 later??? It seems like that happens a lot more for me with series.

I still want to find more series even though I have 9 up there to finish.  Especially Duologies.  So tell me which ones you're in the middle of and loving-- or which ones you finished and want to recommend!!  Or do you have any new series that are coming out in 2018 that are on your radar??

**FYI-- Fantasy recs are okay, but I probably won't be into the high fantasy stuff.  I'm more of a light Fantasy type of gal.

  1. I agree with you-- since I don't read a lot of fantasy, I tend to read less series! You have a couple series on your list that I love, especially Stalking Jack and TATBILB. As for recommendations... my number one favorite is The Diviners series! It has some paranormal elements, but I still think it's super accessible. It's just fantastically written. Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series is another favorite; it has just the right amount of magic for me. I also adore the Tiny Pretty Things duology, if you're looking for more contemporary series.

    1. I've been wanting to read the Wayward Children series!!! I just always forget about it. Also, YES to the Diviners-- I loved the first book, but then the 2nd book was SO THICK!!! It scared me.

  4. There's an upcoming Top Ten Tuesday that discusses series we have yet to finish and I dread doing it because I am pretty sure I am behind on tons (including All the Boys I've Loved Before!).

  5. I've been trying to catch up on my series books - I actually have a post about them that will be up tomorrow because I've been disappointed every single series I've finished this year. I've started a lot of new series this year too - I'm really looking forward to the sequels to Brightly Burning, Reign The Earth, The Smoke Thieves and The Hazel Wood. I'm madly hoping for a sequel to To Kill A Kingdom as well, because the world was so vast I felt like there could be other stories told there.

    1. Oh no!!! It stinks when you put so much time into a set of books and it leaves you underwhelmed. I hope you have better luck fr the rest of the year!

I think I may read THE HAZEL WOOD, which is definitely out of my comfort zone.

  6. I am a series fanatic. I need all the series. I like cozy mysteries in adult. My latest favorite is Mad for Mod its fun and cute. have you read defy the stars. that one is good. I haven't read the second one though. Loved brave new girl, excited for the next one. I wish there was more to it though. I always feel I am missing out with duologies.

    1. I am deeply confused about Cozy Mysteries-- I've also never read one so...... But I don't understand the cats and dogs on the covers LOL.

I have not read DEFY THE STARS. But I do like the cover of it!! I'm excited about BRAVE NEW GIRL-- it just got GOOD at the end of the first book!!

  7. You will love the rest of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before novels! It's definitely one of my favorite series. Also, Hunting Prince Dracula is so good and I cannot wait for Escaping From Houdini. I am usually very picky with fantasy novels and will be selective especially if a fantasy book is part of a series. I am more prone to read MG fantasy series compared to YA fantasy series. I really need to commit to the first book before committing to the rest of the series.

    1. I know I will love the other To All the Boys books which is why I'm so pissed at myself for not reading them yet. I really like MG fantasy too!! I've never thought why I like them and I avoid YA ones so much, but you're making me think it's probably because there is less of a commitment there.

  8. I don't read a lot of series either, and you're right, even if I DO love a series, I don't necessarily read it right away when the book comes out. I just get bogged down with so much! I still need to read Obsidio, but I want to re-read the first two since they are relatively quick reads because of the format. From your list. I'm only reading the Stalking Jack the Ripper series (I have read the second book and I really loved it, so I'm stoked for the third book).

  9. You know, the past few years I've found myself reading more contemporary books too and I've noticed my series reading has gone down too! I'm actually not ever sure how many series I'm technically in the middle of...you're making me want to count!
