Top Ten Tuesday-- Cover Redesigns

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (August 6th) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Cover Redesigns I Loved & Hated

1.  What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen
2.  Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

  • I love the redesigns that Sarah Dessen's books got a few years ago.  It was like life got breathed into those books so that a whole new generation could discover them.  I mean, who would look at that OG Keeping the Moon cover and not think dated?

3.  Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

  • The original cover is probably more popular-- it definitely has more pizzazz.  But I like the simplistic.

4.  Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

  • Both covers are good, but the pink hardcover with the drawings blown up is SO much better!!

5.  Delirium by Lauren Oliver

  • I think the Delirium series got a major upgrade from the dreaded face-girl originals.  Also, I love simple.

6.  Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

  • The original cover isn't bad-- and I have a lot of nostalgia for it... but I think the ombre is more aesthetically pleasing.

7.  I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

  • It's not THAT much different-- but the lack of colors in the paperback cover irks me.  This book is COLORFUL!!

8.  Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

  • It's not that I love the sand cover-- but that hair/arm girl is not doing it for me.  SOOOO boring.

9.  Little Monsters by Kara Thomas

  • Seriously, WTF.  The original cover is not great, but what in the actual is that paperback cover???  Is it 2008???  What were they thinking?

10.  Fireworks by Katie Cotugno

  • I really could've included any of this author's books because they took her very distinct style of having multiple snapshots and redesigned them into these blobby-looking, pastel, high school art work covers.  I HATE.

What cover redesigns do you love/hate??

  1. I loved your list. I don't read a ton of contemporary and it was interesting to see the cover changes in them.

  2. I have to say, the original Delirium cover was the one that made me take a closer look and read the book, but now that I see the redesigned cover, I like that one a lot more!

  3. I actually like the new cover for Little Monsters! Haha! That cover would make me interested to see what was on the inside. I totally agree on Anna and the French Kiss though! That one definitely needed a makeover!

  4. Yeah, I really like the redesign of Delirium. A few other people have mentioned it this week. Today was the first time I saw it.

  5. I agree, Delirium is SO much better. And I love both of those Fangirl covers.

I love those Cotugno snapshot style covers, so yeah I have to agree there too- that's a BAD change. Same with Little Monsters.

  6. I liked the original Me and Earl cover. It reminded me of those silly films they made, though the newer cover was fine too. I agree with most of your nots. I am a sucker for an illustrated cover, though, I always love Cotugno's photo covers.

  7. I love the Sarah Dessen redesigns and new Anna and the French Kiss cover. I agree that the Fireworks cover is terrible. I love illustrated covers, but the art style is so awkward and it''s just a bad redesign all around!

  8. My Sarah Dessen collection is a mix of old and new and I definitely agree, the new covers are a breath of fresh air!

  9. I totally agree about the new Sarah Dessen covers! They really needed the upgrade and now they're a bit more appealing when I'm in the store.

  11. I cannot decide which version of Katie's I like better (the snapshots, which are so cute or the illustrated-like designs). Someday I also really need to read hers. Oh, and the ombre version of "Anna" is quite pretty. :)

  13. Ah this is such a fantastic list, I love it! I agree with you 200% about the Delirium covers, the new ones are absolutely stunning, some of my favorite book covers ever :) I own a copy of Fangirl with the old book cover and... I'm a little sad now, I like the second one a little better, too, haha. And aerm, little monsters... right here with you on that, not a fan of that cover AT ALL haha.
