Top Ten Tuesday-- 2019 Favorites

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (January 21st) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Favorite Books I Read In 2019

  • I'm going rogue again!!  Sorry, I just haven't posted anything about my 2019 reading year, and I really wanted to do that before February hits.
  • These aren't in any type of order (although the 2 larger covers might be my 2 favorites of the year).

1.  The How and the Why by Cynthia Hand- Even though I technically finished this in 2020, I read the bulk of it in 2019-- so I'm counting it for that.  This is a book that made me cry.... and I'm kind of a robot these days, so that alone impressed me.

2.  Lock Every Door by Riley Sager- Riley Sager is turning out to be one of my favorite Horror writers.  I loved reading about The Bartholomew and all it's creepiness.

3.  Notes from a Former Virgin: Junior Year (Chloe Snow's Diary #3) by Emma Chastain- If you haven't read this series yet: DO IT.  It's adorably funny and cute.

4.  The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda- I love Megan Miranda's books.  I liked how this one made me question everyone-- I just didn't love the ending.

5.  The Lies They Tell by Gillian French- This was a really good YA Mystery.  Cool setting, cool dynamics between the characters, eerie feeling throughout the book.

6.  The Takedown by Corrie Wang- This was such a "ME" book.  It was going to be my favorite book of the year, but then THE HOW AND THE WHY and THE 7 HUSBAND'S OF EVELYN HUGO came along and it got so hard to choose!!

7.  The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen- Definitely not my favorite Dessen book, but it's a giant step up from some of her more recent books.  I loved how it made me feel like coming home-- familiar and comforting.

8.  My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix- 80's, teens, and possession??  I was all in on this, and I loved it.

9.  Reality Boy by A.S. King- A.S. King is so freaking talented.  It blows my mind that she can write books that are so unique to each other.  Gerald (the main character) is nothing like any main character I've ever read about.  This book broke my heart, but also gave me hope.

10.  The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid- I read this book on audio and can I just say: PERFECTION.  If you are thinking about reading this, I can't recommend the audio of this book enough.  The 2 narrators blew me away with their ability to make those characters come alive.  The story was SO addicting-- I just had to know what Evelyn Hugo was up to.

What was your favorite book in 2019?

  2. The How and the Why Cover certainly is striking -- as is Reality Boy. Most of these are new to me, so it's so cool to learn more about them here.

  3. Great list! I really enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last year, too - I might re-read it via audiobook this year - and I really want to give My Best Friend's Exorcism a try.

  6. I really liked The Lies They Tell as well- Gillian French is fast becoming an auto- buy author for me. I need to try Sager this year.

  8. I've never read a Sarah Dessen novel, but someday I should considering I'm kind of a contemporary romance reader junkie. :) Glad to see one of hers on your favorites list.

  10. I don't think I ever have anything but love for a Sarah Dessen book. And, you know I adore Chloe Snow. Even if they don't publish her senior year, I think Chastain should at least let you and I know what the future holds for Chloe. AS King never disappoints either. I still have to read Reality Boy, but every one of her books I have read were solid hits for me

  12. The How & the Why is such a fantastic book! The only other book I've read on here was The Rest of the Story (which I also enjoyed), so I need to check these other books out!

  14. You just reminded me that I need to add A.S. King to my list this year. As a newbie, where should I start?

  16. I can't agree more about Evelyn Hugo! I also read it on audio and I think it was my favorite 2019 read overall.

  17. Completely agree on the Dessen. It was better than her more recent ones, and also felt like a callback to some of her old classics. And I bet Evelyn Hugo would be amazing on audio as it's sort of one person telling a story.
