Top Ten Tuesday- Books Out of My Comfort Zone

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (February 25th) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Books That I Want To Read That Are TOTALLY Out Of My Comfort Zone

So I did a post a while back about wanting to go out of my reading comfort zone (I read mostly YA Contemporary).  After I got so many recs and warnings for books, I decided to make my final list of books I want to read.

1.  Cinder by Marissa Meyer- This was rec'd to me by EVERYONE.  In fact I don't think I've talked to one person who didn't like it.  So yeah it's at the top of my list!

2.  Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins- I think I just NEED to do it.  I saw the movie and liked it (I mean JLaw is in it, how could I not?) and it's just kind of crazy that I haven't read it yet.

3.  These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner- Love this cover.... love the sound of it... love all the feedback I've heard about it.

4.  Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi- I'm just super curious about this one.  I've heard good and bad about it, but I want to know what all the fuss is about!

5.  Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis- This has been highly recommended to me by many people who are Contemporary lovers... so that makes me feel better about it.  And again I haven't read very many neg. reviews at all.

6.  Gone by Michael Grant- Not sure if I want to read the ENTIRE series, but the idea of no adults sounds super interesting (I bought this book yesterday!!).

7.  Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi- Again need to see what all the fuss is about.

8.  Pawn by Aimee Carter- I was NOT a fan of The Goddess Test... but I'm willing to give this author another try.

9.  Obsidian by JLA- I own this, so I kind of feel like I need to read it.  It's sounds insta-love-ish, so I'm a little worried.  I think Daemon Black is one of those dudes you either love or hate... and I usually end up hating those types.  But you never know!

10.  Pivot Point by Kasie West- I see this on people lists all the time and when the 2nd book came out, I just decided I think I really want to read it.

What do you think??  Have you read these??  Which ones would you suggest and which ones would you tell people to avoid?

Can't wait to see what your topics are this week!!

  1. This was such a good topic choice! I definitely have my eye on some books that I'm curious about but are out of my reading comfort zone. I really liked These Broken Stars, Cinder, and The Hunger Games, though! :) I chose Top Ten Favorite Book Covers: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2014/02/24/covers/

  2. YES. You need to read these! Gone is super intense, so I had to take a break between books (which means I've only made it through the first two), but it is freaking awesome and makes my brain want to explode! And you should read The Hunger Games for sure - I can't guarantee you'll like it since I do know a few people who didn't, but if you've liked the movies so far (and I'm OBSESSED with JLaw and Catching Fire was one of the most perfect things in the world, and I might even like it more than I liked the book which is really saying something) - you should enjoy the books because the movies have followed the plot and style very closely. I'm so excited for you!!

  3. Excuse me, my mouth is gaping. YOU NEED TO READ SOME OF THESE. CINDER, because CRESS is EXCELLENT. THE HUNGER GAMES, because duh (and the series is great). SHATTER ME, because pretty writing is pretty. And I love the Gone series, so please, get on that (but yeah, it's completely effed up). Thanks for stopping by! Now get to reading.

  5. You really need to read the Hunger Games. If you liked the movie, you will love the book. I still need to reader Cinder, Shatter Me, Pivot Point, and Obsidian. They have all been on my TBR list for a while, but never seem to make it to the top.

  7. I just got the first Gone book, myself! I haven't started it yet and I'm not sure that I'm going to read the whole series, but I have to at least try book one. It's a little out of my comfort zone too. Not sure why since I technically read the genre, but. . . I don't know. It just is. I want to read quite a few on your list here! I loved The Hunger Games and Cinder, though. Definitely recommend.

  8. You know that I support 1, 2, and 4! :) haha! I'm kind of a broken record about them. In fact, last night I talked to the author of #4 about #1, small world! ha! I hope you enjoy ALL of these books outside your comfort zone! I need to read a few of them myself. By the way, I'm so happy you enjoyed Two Boys Kissing! I'm glad we felt the same way about it, it was a really beautiful book! :)

  9. Cinder just came in the mail to my house!! YEAH! The Hunger Games is a very good book and reads like you are watching a movie. Totally worth your time to get out of your comfort zone and jump right into that one.

  11. Holy Hunger Games! Not to be mean or anything, but HOW HAVE YOU NOT READ THE HUNGER GAMES?! Actually better that you haven't because, I kid you not, after I read that series my life changed - I became so freaking obsessed with the book and movies I literally couldn't think of anything else. Be very careful...and may the odds be ever in your favor. SEE I DID IT! HG REFREFENCE! I need a life.
Also Shatter Me is SO GOOD READ IT!
    That is all.

  13. I've read The Hunger Games (READ IT!) and DNF'd Shatter Me. I'm really struggling with the Gone series, although I like the concept. I'm not sure why I'm having a block with it, but I am going to try to finish it. Most of the others are on my TBR.

  15. That is a great reading list! I've read most of them and loved them so you are bound to find at least one that you like, I'm pretty sure! :)

  16. Pivot Point, Cinder and These Broken Stars are the three on this list I would highly encourage you to give a shot! Pivot Point especially; it's got a LOT of contemporary elements to it (great characterization, a great cast of secondary characters AND a steamy romance), but then the alternate universe stuff is thrown in to make it a really great sci-fi!

  17. I'm pretty sure I've told you this before, but it's important enough to repeat (lol): you must read Under the Never Sky, Pivot Point, and Not a Drop to Drink!!!!! :)
