Top Ten Tuesday- Best of 2014 So Far...

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish.  Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (June 10th) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Books I've Read So Far This Year

1.  Cinder by Marissa Meyer- I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and read this crazy-popular series about a cyborg Cinderella living in a dystopian future world.  I loved the shit out of this book.  It really did live up to the hype.
2.  Torn Away by Jennifer Brown- This book hurt my heart.  It was a little short for my liking, but I still loved it.  I definitely recommend reading anything Jennifer Brown.
3.  Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas- I started this on the way to BEA and I freaking LOVED it.  It's one of those books that you can't put down.  And that ending!?!??  Can someone punch me in the face please??
4.  To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han- Cute. Cute. Cute.  Definitely the cutest book I've read this year hands down.  I loved the m/c in the book even though she's NOTHING like me, which usually doesn't happen.  Can't wait for book #2!!
5.  Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz- I read this for book club last month and it was SO good.  And important.  And needs to be universally read.
6.  Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher- This book is about a girl who is confessing her darkest secret to a death row inmate through letters.  I loved the story, but it was the sibling relationships in this book that really captured my heart.

7.  Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight- This was unputdownable to me.  It was a mystery and it had all these cool elements like blog posts, text messages, emails.  It was a fun and heartbreaking at the same time.  LOVED.
8.  Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan- Another important book.  I love the cover... I loved the narration.  I wished it was a little bit longer, but still thought it was super well-done.
9.  Tease by Amanda Maciel- Oh this one might be my favorite of all of these books.  I don't really know why I attached to this so hard, but I really really did.  I love being shown a different side to a same-old story.  I love when a book makes you relate to a character that maybe you shouldn't.  I feel like that takes talent.  I will read this one again.
10.  The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler- I love everything Sarah Ockler.  This one isn't going to go down as my most favorite by her... but I still loved the family in this story hardcore.

So far I haven't read AS many books as I would like... and after BEA, I have SO many to read (not that I didn't before or anything).  Despite that, I have read some really really good ones.  Hope to continue that trend!!

What books did you love this year so far??  Leave me your links :)

  2. I own a copy of Aristotle and Dante as well as To All The Boys and all I've heard from these books are good things. I wish they make it on my top books for 2014, too! Oh, and I've read Two Boys Kissing last year and god was it so good. (Actually, anything Levithan writes is amazing to me, haha.) I'm going to check out Tease because I'm intrigued with what you said up there!

  12. Aristotle and Dante was such a beautiful story! And I really need to get my hands on more Jenny Han (I mention on my reply to your post how untrusting I am of contemporary YA lol). I really loved The Summer I Turned Pretty and need to finish that series. And everyone seems to love To All The Boys I've Love Before even more than the summer books!

  13. I also loved the shit out of Cinder (and all of the Lunar Chronicles). Aristotle and Dante is on my TBR for this Summer as is Two Boys Kissing.
    Great list!!!

    1. I met her at BEA and she was SO nice!! And stylish! I really hope you like Tease... but it all depends on if you can handle the main character. Some people seem to get really turned off by her.

  16. I really want to read KETCHUP CLOUDS (if not just for that title), and I'm hearing so many good things about DANGEROUS GIRLS so I should probably get that soon. CINDER's good, but oh my gosh, CRESS is AMAZING. I also need to check out TEASE; it seems to be a book people either love or hate, which has me intrigued.

  17. I really like how you set this up. you'll have to teach me how to do stuff like this :)
I still can't wait to read Tease!

  18. Woohoo, glad you went outside your comfort zone to read Cinder and found that it was totally worth it!! Now maybe I should do the same thing... because contemporary is outside my comfort zone and you seem to have loved a ton of contemporary reads so far this year. Cinder is the only one on your list I've read!!

  19. Cinder - "I loved the shit out of this book." Yes, exactly how I feel, too. :)

  20. I love how Cinder is out of a lot of people comfort zones but we all ended up loving it. That's always a great incentive to try more books that are different for us.

  21. I LOVED Ketchup Clouds. I read it last year and it means the world to me. If you liked the sibling relationships in it, then you'll love My Sister Lives On The Mantelpiece by the same author, if you haven't already read it. I didn't love it as much as Ketchup Clouds, but it is still awesome. I'm kind of obsessed with Annabel Pitcher now, haha!

Cinder made my top ten as well :) I read it last week.

Torn Away is on my to read list. It sounds like it might break my heart into tiny little pieces though.

  22. I actually had to DNF Tease, but I can see why you liked it a lot! Ketchup Clouds is one that I NEED to read asap because I have heard all good things. Aristotle & Dante's cover looks amazing. I just want to hang it up on my wall! Love the list, Michelle!
