yolo (Internet Girls #4) by Lauren Myracle

yolo

The Winsome Threesome are back and heading to college!!

Zoe, Maddie, and Angela are scattered throughout the country, but that's not going to stop them from being there for each other... or experiencing all that college has to offer.

Maddie comes up with a grand "yolo" plan for the girls that has them saying YES to all opportunities that come their way.  The only problem with that is: Zoe and Doug are having problems, Maddie's suitemates leave her out, and Angela is having issues with the sorority she's pledging.

Through it all the girls are there for each other, push each other, and have each other's backs.  And it's all documented in text and IM.

So, I was excited to read another Internet Girls book!  Especially after SO long.  The first 3 books came out over 7 years ago, so I wondered what made the author want to revisit these characters?  And I guess I'm still kind of wondering, but I read the book anyway.

I was a little concerned that I wouldn't remember what went on in the series, but I quickly realized you don't really have to read the other 3 books (or remember much about them) to enjoy this book.  I also forgot how fun it is to read books written in a non-conventional format.  Tons of fun!!

This book finds the 3 best friends Maddie, Zoe, and Angela in college and separate, but still committed to keeping in touch.  Maddie convinces them to make a pact... a yolo pact, where they will embrace all the adventures that come their way in college.

Maddie- She's off to school in California, ready for anything and everything.  Then she meets her suitemates.  Apparently the other girls in her suite were all besties in HS.  They have all these inside jokes and treat Maddie like an outsider.

Zoe- She's in Ohio and Doug's only an hour away!  But as Doug acclimates to college he starts pulling away from Zoe.  Zoe hasn't been living up to the yolo pact, she's been obsessing over Doug and staying in her room.  What's going to happen if it all falls apart?

Angela- She's pledging a sorority and loves the social life!!  It's all fun and games until a freak accident and roommate troubles pop up.  Soon Angela starts to realize that Greek Life might not be all what she thought.  And when she meets a guy that definitely won't fit in with her new friends, she starts to wonder if this is all worth it.

I really enjoyed reading this book.  This series is just pure fun and nothing else.  What I mean by that is-- it's entertainment and it's light-hearted.  It's not DEEP or depressing or life-changing.

Don't get me wrong, there are issues like date-rape, sex, drinking, and such covered, but the book is still fluffy.  This is more about friendship and happiness.  It's a light in all the darkness that some YA contemporary can be.

At times I did get confused as to what technology these girls were using.  I didn't feel like it was clearly addressed.  It seemed like IMing because they had screen names??  The thing is, I don't think that people actually use IM anymore?  I feel like this would have been better if the author clearly stated that they were using Facebook Messenger or text instead.

PS- Total cliffhanger ending!!  Are there going to be more books????

OVERALL:  I loved reading about these super fun, awesome girls!  This book was a ray of sunshine and happiness for me.  I loved revisiting the relationships the 3 have with each other, and I soon realized that you don't need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one.  I would recommend this to younger YA-ers, or just anyone who is looking for a break from all the DEEP stuff.

How I got this book: Thanks to Netgalley and Abrams for allowing me to read and honestly review this book.
