Synopsis:

This achingly beautiful novel considers how to measure love when it has the power to both save and destroy.

Levon Grady and Samantha Vash are both students at an alternative high school for high-achieving but troubled teens. They have been chosen for a year-long project where they write their life stories and collect interviews from people who know them. The only rule is 100% confidentiality—they will share their work only with each other. What happens will transform their lives.

Told from the perspectives of Levon, Sam, and all the people who know them best, this is a love story infused with science and the exploration of identity. Love Is Both Wave and Particle looks at how love behaves in different situations, and how it can shed light on even the darkest heart.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Could you tell our Book Addicts a little bit about LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE?

Love Is Both Wave and Particle is about two very bright but troubled seventeen-year-olds, each of whom has always been labeled with one mental disorder or another. They’re thrown together in their school in Ithaca, NY, to do a year-long project: write about your life. Neither wants to do this. They’ve never met. Will they hate each other? Learn anything? Change? Fall in love? At heart, they’ve been two terribly lonely, isolated kids. Stay tuned.

What 3 words or phrases would you most associate with your book?

Lonely, longing, smart.

What Hogwarts houses would you put Levon and Sam in?  What about a Patronus for either/both?

Levon would be in Ravenclaw. Sam would be in Gryffindor.
Levon’s Patronus would be the snow leopard, Sam’s would be an owl.

Did you find inspiration in any other story/movie/show to write this book, and how has this affected your writing?

I love novels that are narrated by or that feature odd or quirky characters. Such as Huck Finn, and Christopher in The Curious Incident of the Dog In Night-Time

Tell us your favorite quote from LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE.

“I always thought of the closed curtains, and what life must be like for them, and where they came from, and what they did all day,” from Chapter One

Is there a specific scene that you had the most fun to write?  Or which part was the most difficult to get through?

I loved writing the last chapter, and had a very hard time writing the scene where Sam cuts herself.

If you had to pick one song to be the theme song for LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE, which one would you pick?

“All I Need” by Radiohead

Are there any recommendations you could give your readers to be in the “perfect mood” to read LOVE IS BOTH WAVE AND PARTICLE (specific music, snacks…)?

A quiet rainy day, no music, a really comfortable chair or couch or bed, chocolate.

What’s next for you?

I’m revising a YA novel about a girl who loses her mom to cancer, and how she grows up strong and well despite her mom’s death. I’m also about two-thirds of the way through a draft of a murder/mystery.

Thank you so much for everything, Paul!

Thank you! PC

  4. This sounds like a really cute novel. I've spotted it here and there, but aside from noticing the cute cover, I hadn't really read about this one. Glad to know more about it. Thanks, Michelle. :)
