Confessions of an Angry Girl By Louise Rozett

Rose's dad just died in Iraq a few months ago and now she has to start high school. Her brother is off to college, so it's just her and her mom at home, and neither of them want to talk about their issues. At school her best friend Tracy becomes a cheerleader (something Rose loathes) and an older guy Jaime (a semi-friend of Rose's brother) takes notice of her. And she takes notice of him!!! Too bad Jamie has a psycho cheer-witch girlfriend who proceeds to make Rose's life a living hell... only Regina (the crazy girlfriend) didn't count on Rose's inner anger lashing out.

I just want to say I LOVE ROSE!! I love real girls in books!  Rose and Kelsey Finkelstein from Freshman Year & Other Unnatural Disasters need to become friends! Anyway back to this book: I could not stop reading it or thinking about it. The title was a little bit deceiving.  Rose isn't really all that angry.  I mean she has her moments, but she's not walking around flipping out on people.  Most of the time she just keeps quiet and walks away.  She has pent up anger (mostly because of her dad) and that comes out in flashes, but she's not as angry as I was thinking she would be.

This book is about a girl trying to figure out how to navigate through high school, and not doing a very good job at it.  She has a homecoming-911 incident that brands her as the school-narc, her best friend Tracy is becoming more and more cheerleaderish, and she has the wrath of Regina coming at her.  Plus she's just not your typical high school teen.  Yeah, she's been through a tragedy and that is probably part of it, but she's just a different breed.  She doesn't care about make-up and having the perfect outfit.  She doesn't get what the big deal is with drinking and sex.  Maybe she'll be more into that stuff when she's older, but somehow I doubt it.  Rose is an old-soul.

I really liked Tracy.  She came off kind of dumb, but I think there are a lot of Tracy's out there.  She wanted to believe that her boyfriend was in love with her and that's what she was going to believe.  My real beef with Tracy wasn't the betrayal of Rose about Jamie, it was the gynecologist thing... telling about that to me was way more unforgivable than telling about some guy.

I loved the Rose/Robert/Jamie thing!  Rose treated Robert like crap and didn't deserve him and Jamie was an enigma.  It was so real life!  Yeah Rose kind of obsessed over Jamie, but I didn't find it annoying at all.  Hello, the guy was here and gone all the time, how could she not obsess?  Plus girls in H.S. usually are way worse than she was.  My question was why did the brother have to go from a really caring, look-out-for-you kind of guy to a douche just because he met a girl at college?

The only thing I would've changed is that I thought Rose came off too naive at times. I know she is only 14 in this book, and completely inexperienced with guys, but to me it was like she was guy-retarded at times. And because of that Jamie did come off like a pedophile where normally he wouldn't.

One more awesome thing:  This book somehow managed to cover the whole teenage sex issue without being preachy in the least bit!  I can totally see a girl reading this and understanding why respecting yourself and your partner is important.  How great is that?

The ending was so abrupt that now I'm dying to read book 2: Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend!

OVERALL:  Loved it! Read it, especially if you like books with super-relatable girls that you can root for!

  1. Lol I love how you call Tracy dumb >.<. When I read the blurb for this a while back it seemed like a very angsty annoying novel but the reviews have proven otherwise. I've had my eye on it for a while. Glad that you liked it!
