Top Ten Tuesday- Books With Characters Who...

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme created over at The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (April 21st) I'm one of them :)

Top Ten Books Which Feature Characters Who Are Nerdy

I love nerds.  I like to call them nerd-alerts.  Here are my favorite nerds from some of my favorite books.  Some of them are super smart... some of them are extremely bookish... some of them are just a little socially awkward.  They are my people.  Nerds Unite :)

1.  Hermione Granger from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling- The #1 nerd of all nerds.  How many times did her knowledge save Harry and Ron's butts??  She rocks!
2.  Matilda Wormwood from Matilda by Ronald Dahl- Matilda loved to read and learn and her brains really had no boundaries.
3.  Charlie from Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Cbosky- Charlie is more of an awkward character than he is nerdy, but he did love books and he definitely didn't fit in very well.
4.  Cath Avery from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell- The ultimate Fanfic nerd!!
5.  Kent McFuller from Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver- Awww Kent, cute and odd and so adorable.  He dressed in his own way and he didn't care.  Totally crush-worthy nerd.
6.  Ashley Price from Solving for Ex by LeighAnn Kopans- Ashley's goal in life was to be on the Mathletes.  Enough said.
7.  Jessica Darling from Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty- Oh Jessica, you're so smart and you really don't care what people think.  But will you use your powers for good??
8.  Julia from Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill- Julia Gulia.  Okay, so that's not her name, but she pretty much was!!  Her nickname was Book Licker.
9.  Ryan Dean West from Winger by Andrew Smith- Ryan Dean is 14 and in 11th grade... so yeah, he's pretty damn smart.  He's also totally awkward and awesome.
10.  Isla from Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins- Isla is #1 in her class.  She stays to herself and her BFF Kurt, but has this mega-crush on the cool guy.  Love her.

  2. Aww, nerds! Or as I also like to call them, geek chic! The best thing about nerds is that they're actually the coolest. I loved FANGIRL and ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER and liked MEANT TO BE and BEFORE I FALL. I totally need to read MATILDA and want to read McCafferty's books.

  9. Very cute choice of topic! Hermione and Matilda are great choices - I wonder if Hermione read Matilda when she was younger and realised the two of them were rather similar... ;)
