Top Ten Tuesday-- Liked Characters From Disliked/Non-Fave Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (April 3rd) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

Top Ten Characters I Liked That Were In Non-Favorite/Disliked Books

  • This is a hard one because lots of times when I don't care for a book I ALSO don't like any of the characters.  I found some exceptions though.... here they are:

1.  Theo-- Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum
  • I liked this book, but most of the characters were MEH for me.  Theo was Jessie's new step-bro who she didn't initially get along with-- but eventually they figured each other out & he was my fave person in this book.

2.  Andrew-- After the Fall by Kate Hart
  • Andrew was the best part of this book.  BEST PART.

3.  Rylin & Watt-- The Thousandth Floor (#1) by Katherine McGee
  • I liked this book, but I wouldn't call it a favorite.  There are like 999 characters and most of them are not people I loved.  Rylin & Watt were my faves in book 1-- who knows if I'll still feel that way after the 3rd book comes out this year!

4.  Andy-- We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach
  • Andy was hands down the best part of this book.  Everyone else kind of got my last nerve so.....

5.  Veronica-- Denton Little's Deathdate by Lance Rubin
  • I didn't love this book, but Veronica was definitely a cool girl.

6.  Gifford-- My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows
  • I know everyone loved this book, but it was not my jam.  I thought it was just okay :(  Gifford was a fun character though-- the horse jokes were amusing too.

7.  Esther-- A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland
  • This book was 100% readable, but it didn't end up as a FAVORITE for me.  Esther was fun to read about though.

8.  Julia-- Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
  • I had issues with this book, but I liked seeing Julia become less uptight.

9.  Porter-- Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
  • I liked this one, but didn't love love it-- Porter was my fave and if I liked Bailey as much as him, I probably would've love loved it.

10.  Ollie-- There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
  • I really liked Ollie, even though I wanted him to be the Skeet Ulrich of this book & that didn't happen...

Which characters made your list this week??

  1. I haven't had a chance to read any of these yet, but it's good to know there is at least someone who didn't care for My Lady Jane!

  2. Didn't love The Thousandth Floor despite the fact I really wanted too. But someday I do want to read 'Three Things.' I though Julie's last YA was really cute, so I'm curious to discover this one by her. :)

  3. I do want to read a lot of the books on your list. It's good to know to be wary of some of them! We do tend to have very similar taste in books!

  4. We All Looked Up was a tough one for me too. I hardly remember it, in fact, that's how blase it was sadly. Ollie... yeah. Skeet Ulrich lol- love that, and so true!

  5. I was pretty daunted by this topic it when it came through my TTT submission form, but I thought I should make the person happy who submitted it and went ahead and put it on the schedule. But it was SO HARD for me to come up with a list because the characters are what make or break a book for me! lol. I don't usually dislike a book if I liked the characters. Anyway, god job coming up with ten picks for such a hard topic! I felt the same way as you did about Alex, Approximately.

  6. The only one I've read is Meant to Be and I remember not being wow'd by it. Didn't remember most of it so I couldn't remember if I liked anyone lol. My Top Ten

  7. I haven't heard of any of these books. It's always nice when that happens on a TTT post.

And I agree, Jana. This week's topic was hard.

  8. You are right about The Thousandth Floor. It has SO many characters that they have pretty much all turned into a blur for me.

  10. Oh gosh, I don't think I could come up with even five for this prompt. I actually liked There's Someone Inside Your House, but I have to say that Ollie really was amazing and seriously made the book.

  12. Definitely a hard topic. 99% of the cases if I don`t like a book it`s because I don`t like the characters. I`m surprised about "My Lady Jane". I haven`t read it yet, but like you said, most people love it.

  13. My heart is aching, because your kist of meh has some of my favorite books on it. I struggled with this topic, because I am a character driven reader, so I sort of have to like the characters to like the book, and vice versa. With that said, I did like a lot of the characters you mentioned. Special love for Esther, Porter, and Theo.

  14. Gifford was definitely my fave from My Lady Jane. :)
