Top Ten Tuesday-- First 10 Reviews (EVER)

Top Ten Tuesday is a really cool original feature/weekly meme now hosted over at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week they post a new Top Ten List that bloggers join in on answering... and today (April 23rd) I'm one of them :)

Today's Topic

First Ten Books I Reviewed (On The Blog)

  • 7 years ago, in 2012, I started this blog to talk about/review books that I was reading.  Before that I wrote short little reviews/shared thoughts on Amazon and Goodreads, but here is where I got more in-depth.  It took me a while to get the hang of what I was doing, and looking back on these, I kind of cringe.  But it's where I started, so I gotta embrace it.  These are the first 10 book reviews that I wrote on Pink Polka Dot Books:

1.  Trapped by Michael Northrop- My first ever review here!!

2.  Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins- I miss this series!

3.  The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade- Still a favorite 7 years later!

4.  Wake by Lisa McMann- I barely remember reading this one.

5.  Rosebush by Michele Jaffe- Where has this author been?

6.  Freshman Year and Other Unnatural Disasters by Meredith Zeitlin- This book was SO adorbs-- and it shows up on Orange is the New Black season 1!!!

7.  Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli- I can't believe I read this for the first time as an ADULT adult.

8.  Paper Covers Rock by Jenny Hubbard- This one has stuck with me & I wish this author would write more books.

9.  Shooter by Walter Dean Meyers- I love the mixed media books.  This wasn't great, but the format was A+.

10.  Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty- I will always love the first 2 books in this series.  When I read them, it felt like I was truly finding my reading self.

Some of my very favorite books wound up being among the first 10 I reviewed on here.  I guess I was good at picking books I would like back then??

What year did you start reviewing books?

  1. Amazing that you've been reviewing for 12 years! I haven't heard any of these books but have heard so many good things about Stargirl. I really enjoyed answering this week's TTT!

Here is My TTT if you're interested to check it out :)

  4. I started in 2014! I didn't share links to my early reviews in my post, they can still be found on my blog, but I cringe so much when I look at them, I'm so much better at reviewing now.

  5. Oh man, I miss Stephanie Perkins' books too! That whole series was so delightful.

I started reviewing books in 2007 on my old blog and really picked up in 2008, but I ended up closing that blog when life got too hectic in 2012. Reading some of those old reviews is just...yikes. I've read so much more and my writing has (thankfully!) evolved since then, as has my taste in books. :)

  6. I do miss Anna and the French Kiss and that trilogy - such good books. I LOVED Wake and that whole series. They were fairly quick reads, but they were fun, and Lisa McMann was one of the authors I talked to "regularly" back in the day.

  7. What made you decide to switch to writing whole blog posts about books?

    1. I guess I just really wanted to talk about books, but didn't have any one in my real life that was a reader. I was also afraid that Goodreads would magically disappear one day and I would forget all the thoughts I had on certain books.

  8. I started writing book reviews on my blog back in 2014, though the kinds of books I focus on have really changed over the years!

  9. I have either read the book or want to read it. The Anna books were cute. I am still #TeamIsla as my favorite, but I enjoyed them all. I had read And We Stay by Hubbard, and I liked it very much. Paper Covers Rock is on my TBR, thought, I am not great about getting to my backlist. Same for Stargirl and Sloppy Firsts. I think my daughter read Stargirl in middle school, and we own the book. Some day.

  10. Ooh Trapped looks awesome!

And isn't it funny how many of us started around that timeframe- 2012 ish or thereabouts? I've seen a lot of that today!

  11. Trapped has such a beautiful cover! Too bad it wasn't that great a book. It's cool to see all the older books this week.

  12. I think we all cringed a bit with this week's topic. But we had to start somewhere, right? I've only read one book by Stacey Kade, but I loved it--guess I have to check out The Ghost and the Goth.

  13. I think we were all a little embarrassed to share our first reviews, at least I was. I do feel like we've all improved in someways. I think I'm going to check out The Ghost and the Goth.

  14. Stargirl is an awesome novel!! I loved it. Although, I didn't enjoy the follow up novel, Love, Stargirl, as much.
